Entry requirements

  • English Language Proficiency: IELTS 5.5 (no individual band less than 5.0) or ISLPR 2+ on all skills or other - For a list of all English Language test accepted by TAFE Queensland International
  • Academic Requirements: Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent). Non school-leavers must have relevant work experience or qualification that indicates likely success of course completion. For more information on the international education achievement levels equivalent to Year 10 and 12.

Students should be a minimum of 18 years of age. Student visa applicants under the age of 18 will be accepted where they demonstrate that they will be accompanied by a parent, legal custodian or a suitable relative who is aged 21 or over. Resources required

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Courses may require different resources, depending on your study location;

TAFE Queensland East Coast

Students undertaking compulsory vocational placement in this course will be required to undergo the Working With Children check and apply for a Blue Card. For more information visit www.bluecard.qld.gov.au. It is advisable to apply via the website before the program commences

TAFE Queensland North

Resources included in the tuition fees are student orientation handbook and relevant learning materials such as study guides, assessment requirements, handouts and workbooks. Students have access to library resources, computers, the Internet and a personal email account at TAFE Queensland North. Students may need to purchase stationery items such as paper, pens and a USB drive.

  • When you have enrolled, you will be granted access to our online Learning Management System. The learning environment has the assessment tasks and all the information for each unit of competency in the qualification. If you wish, you can purchase a suggested text book that provides information relevant to each of the competencies studied.
  • Delivery may include lectures, practical sessions, observations and vocational placement. You may be required to attend evening classes and/or weekend activities. You must abide by industry and/or TAFE Queensland North dress standards.
  • Assessment is competency based (practical) and continuous, and is considered an integral part of your learning and development. As appropriate, exams, assignments, projects, practical tests and student presentations are used. You must successfully complete all units to progress to the next course or obtain the qualification.

TAFE Queensland Gold Coast

Students must have:

  • a computer with access to the Internet and an email account; and
  • Microsoft Word or Office for Mac (or an alternative word processing on their computer.

The computer specifications for students accessing Connect are as follows:

  • Minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels
  • Computer running Windows XP/Vista or Apple Macintosh OSX 10.1
  • Internet Explorer 6.0 (Version 7.0 recommended), Mozilla Firefox 2.0, Safari 3.0 or Opera 9.0
  • Internet connection (Broadband recommended)

For vocational placement the student will need to have:

  • Professional clothing
  • Enclosed shoes
  • Wide brimmed hat

Students who live near TAFE Queensland Gold Coast, may be able to utilise it's library facilities at Coomera, Ashmore or Southport during library opening hours. To confirm opening times, please call 07 5581 8300.

TAFE Queensland South West

Timetable

Timetables may be available online or may be provided to you at your program orientation.

Your timetable may change every semester and you must be able to manage your commitments to ensure attendance at all your classes.

Timetables will be different across TAFE Queensland locations. This is an example of what a course timetable could look like -  

Monday and Tuesday 8.00 am - 4.45 pm and Wednesday 8.00 am - 12.00 pm.

Or

Wednesday and Thursday 8.00 am - 4.45 pm and Friday 8.00 am - 12.00 pm.

Placement

In addition to attending classes at TAFE, or undertaking external study, if you are not currently employed in a Regulated Education and Care Service, you will be required to undertake Vocational Placement. Vocational Placement is negotiated with the teaching team, and the Education and Care Service. You must hold or obtain a Blue Card prior to commencing Vocational Placement. Blue Card Applications or Authorisation to Confirm a Valid Card/Application are to be lodged through TAFE.

Whether you are employed in the industry or undertaking Vocational Placement, you will be required to provide evidence that you have completed a minimum of 240 hours in the workplace, including a minimum of 24 hours with infants, to successfully complete this qualification.

Confidentiality
During these placements, you may become familiar with information that is confidential to that workplace (for example financial or business affairs, personal affairs and family background of staff and clients, technical information, trade secrets, know-how, formulae, processes, ideas, and inventions). You must not divulge any confidential information that you become aware of during a placement. Breaches of confidentiality will be considered to be acts of behavioural misconduct and may result in disciplinary action.

Important Information

TAFE Queensland Brisbane

It is strongly recommended that applicants provide evidence of immunisation against: Pertussis (dTpa, provided dTpa has not been given previously), MMR (if non-immune) and Varicella (if seronegative). In addition, it is recommended that all Childcare and preschool staff have Hepatitis A Vaccination.

TAFE Queensland East Coast

Blue Card: Commission for Children and Young People Act 2000 (QLD) contains a new law to help ensure that people seeking to work with children are suitable. This is called 'the working with children check'. Any person wanting to work in regulated employment, as a paid employee, a volunteer, or a person carrying on a regulated business, will have to fill out a Blue Card application form consenting to a criminal history check prior to his or her appointment or engagement (See ‘Relevant Documents below). Further details can be obtained at the following link for Blue Card Services or by telephone on 1800 688 275 (Free call). Students will be unable to attend Vocational Placement until they hold a valid Blue Card. It is advisable to apply via the website before the program commences. Once enrolled Students need to make an appointment for the Teacher to sight their ID and sign their Blue Card application form. The teacher then arranges for the application to be lodged with Blue Card Services for processing and final approval.

Applying to TAFE Queensland International is easy. You can submit an application at any time, but get in early as positions are limited!
Before you apply, make sure that you check that you meet the specific academic and language requirements for your chosen course.

If your application is successful, we will send you an Offer of Place letter. To accept it and secure your place in your chosen program, you will need to:

After you have accepted your Offer of Place, you will receive your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) and with your CoE you can apply for your student visa. You will need to arrange your student visa before you come to Australia.

Please note that International Orientation day is compulsory. Students must attend the International Orientation Day before commencing their studies with TAFE Queensland.

Orientation

At the beginning of each semester orientation events are hosted across TAFE Queensland locations.

TAFE Queensland recommends you arrive two weeks prior to your course start date to allow time to organise and settle into your accommodation and prepare for your studies.

International Orientation which is usually conducted the week before study commences will help answer many of your questions about studying with TAFE Queensland. This comprehensive orientation covers many important topics including

  • Living in Queensland and understanding our Australian culture

  • Accommodation

  • Banking

  • Transport

  • Student safety

  • Learning support

  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), insurance and medical needs

  • Student Support Services at TAFE Queensland Brisbane

Program specific orientations are also conducted one week prior to the start of study. This is an opportunity for you to meet your teachers and classmates, get to know your campus, and familiarise yourself with your study schedule.
